Is Dataverse Default Capacity Increasing Or Not?

For every Microsoft customer that has purchased licenses for Power Platform or Dynamics 365 products, their tenant gets what’s known as Dataverse default capacity. This is a one-time allocation of storage capacity for database, file and log storage in Dataverse. Customers who are merely using Microsoft 365 or Office 365 licenses and their seeded Power Apps or Power Automate features do not get this capacity, thus limiting their options for leveraging Power Platform environments.

In November 2025, we’ve seen signs of Microsoft changing the amount of default capacity. However, there has been no clear announcement of what the new numbers will be. In the M365 Message Center, we see the following information in message MC111915:

Starting December 1, 2025, we are increasing default storage for Dataverse (per tenant entitlements) across all Dynamics 365 apps (excluding Business Central) and Power Platform. Dataverse and storage for Dynamics 365 enterprise resource planning (ERP) applications (Finance, Supply Chain, Commerce, Project Operations, Human Resources) will now be combined into a shared pool per tenant.

What’s interesting is that there was a change already in the November 2025 edition of the Power Platform Licensing Guide. The change log in the appendix of this PDF document did not indicate anything new on the Dataverse side. Luckily, MVP Rene Modery noticed that the section on Dataverse default and accrued subscription capacity entitlements had new figures for the “Default Premium” and “Default Per app” columns:

Interestingly, there was no corresponding update done on the Dataverse entitlements information of the Dynamics 365 Licensing Guide in November 2025. Even though the underlying platform and the licensing mechanisms are the same. This seems to indicate that the information included in the Power Platform Licensing Guide was not yet fully prepared to be communicated to Microsoft customers and partners.

These new default capacity entitlements have not yet landed in M365 tenants as of November 13th. If the message MC1181915 is correct, the new capacity would be rolled out starting December 1st. The Power Platform Licensing Guide would indicate that existing customers with Power Apps, Power Automate, Power Pages or Copilot Studio licenses would receive an additional 10 GB worth of Dataverse database capacity, with the new default capacity number being 20 GB for most customers. If the only premium license in use would be Power Apps per app, the default would be 15 GB.

Logically, the same increase should apply on the Dynamics 365 side. However, since the message from MS talks about not just the default capacity increase but also a shared pool between CRM and ERP applications, the outcome from this update may not be as simple as what the new numbers in the Power Platform Licensing Guide indicate.

Now, the really interesting part is what the message MC1181915 includes as a footnote: “MC1181733 (published October 30, 2025) titled “Dataverse Billing Rates and Management” was sent out in error and is no longer available.” That warrants an analysis blog post of its own…
